Genre of Behavior

With the same level interest as Jane Goodall I observe the behavior of humans that have just recently reached adulthood. Three males, between the ages of twenty to twenty-seven, and a female in the same age range. The subject of choice for their conversation is a scene from Jackass where Steve-O eats a snow cone that is covered in his own urine. A goatee adorned man tells the anecdote while the others, revolting in disgust, laugh. This is the background music of our society, the genre of our time. None of these people are stupid in the sense that they have nothing better to say than this word vomit they're spewing. They realize topics like this are just the norm in social interactions these days.
"Stewie is gay now right?” says the girl in a lofty voice. I couldn't have timed that better, but anyway. This excessive talking without any true substance is good commentary of where we're heading as a society. Constantly diluting our thoughts and running through a conversation just to feel accepted. As I say this, a cute girl walks to the crowd I'm observing and joins in the witless banter on which character in Twilight they prefer. I've talked to her before, very eloquent and engaging when presented with the opportunity to be so. I can't blame any of them for interacting with each other like this though.
Human beings are a social animal and need to interact with others to be happy. This is the environment they are in so the will adapt to it to suit their needs. A small sacrifice of one's own thoughts to be accepted into the group is one they're willing to take. If you don't, your only other options are to keep on the outskirts or possibly get lucky enough to find a person so sick of hearing a bad conversation that they're willing to talk about something unrelated.
I have hope for these people who walk around with only their desire to have others laugh with them. When alone they are left with only their thoughts and how they feel about themselves. A feeling of dishonesty and unoriginality, not to the others but to themselves. That's why it really hurts too, they do it to themselves. From this feeling of self-disgust eventually a person will begin to refine themselves and their taste. Personally, I can't wait to listen to what they come up with after doing so because what I'm hearing now just isn't very pleasant to the ear.
